I use matchboxcameras since I found your site per search engine (simply: "pin hole camera"). I tried to build one out of LEGO before (bad idea... don't try this) or out of metal boxes (as bad... scratches in the filmsurface...). But nothing worked.
Now I have built about 15 cameras already and they all work fine. I never tried using a plastic counter. My films are mostly black (slides).
Now I try to build one out of wood, so that I can use different hole-diameters. Perhaps this will work - but best thing you can do to get rid of that "consumtioning" fotografing with digital cameras and to realise the real sense of fotogafing is to built a pin hole camera out of matchbox!
Yes this is great!

In response to:Matchbox Pinhole

Very creative artist!

In response to:Matchbox Pinhole

I think two holes would result in one image unless you put a mask between them,it has something to do with the mysteries of physics,is light a wave or is it a particle?

In response to:C-41ophobia - The Irrational Fear of DIY Colour

*bookmarked*
I guess you are right, but I thought underexposed was dark and overexposed was more washed out. One more thing, I know exposure time isn't an exact science, but what about redscale "loading the film backwards." Keep up the good work Alspix.

In response to:Matchbox Pinhole

are you sure they're underexposed and not overexposed? Dark negs=overexposed. Excessive blur could be pinhole too large (even more exposure), and 6 seconds in sunshine sounds too long. Try a smaller hole (should just be able to see it when held up to the light) and shorter exposure (about 1 second in sunshine with 200 film)

In response to:Matchbox Pinhole

First off, Thanks. I finished builing mine, instead of using the plastic from a notbook, I cut a sliver from a water bottle cap for the clicker. I used 200 color film with about 5 or 6 sec exposure time on a sunny day, and the negatives came out underexposed and blurry. Also, I scaned them with an epson v500 and tried to "doctor" them up, and with no luck. Help, Thanks.

In response to:Matchbox Pinhole

i cant get it to focus!
Even better, cut the hole so that it is a rectangle 36 x 24mm instead of square - this is the conventional shape they are used to seeing. Make sure you tell the staff it's an experimental home made camera, if they are helpful they will take more care when printing. Good luck!

In response to:Matchbox Pinhole

You'll need to find a specialist shop if you want the prints to include the sprocket holes. Or just ask your normal shop to develop the film only with no prints. Then use a film scanner to scan the developed film yourself and include the sprocket holes in the scan. Then get the scanned jpg files printed. This is how most people do it.

In response to:Matchbox Pinhole

Oooh, n one more thing...after i built the matchbox camera as shown in ur site, how do i wash it to produce prints as its film capture size is not of the conventional size? I have a question n i hope u are able to help me as ur blog is very informative n helpful. I want to take 35mm pics with the sprocket effect on my Holga cam. I have modified it to fit the 35mm film roll. The question is, once i have taken my pics, how do i wash the film to get the prints? I am told by others tat if i send the roll of film to a conventional shop for photo processing, they will js produce normal square images without the sprockets. Is tat true? If so, how then can i produce sprocket prints? Thank you for ur time n kindness for helping me out =)

In response to:Matchbox Pinhole

i am making one, but i just cant get the clicker right, it keeps ripping the film when winding... im gonna try without clicker, but i want to know how to put the clicker correctly, because it was on the new canister, but when putting the tray back, it presses the clicker i guess and it tears the film!
